Thompson & Morgan has a long history as market leader in the mail order supply of seed and young plants, direct to gardener’s doors since 1855. Its award winning website and seasonal catalogues have undergone a massive product expansion through 2015, covering most areas of garden supply, from sheds, greenhouses and mature plants to garden machinery, composts, fertilisers and hand tools.
Moving into the garden machinery arena, the Ipswich-based business was keen to develop a stand-out range catering for all budgets and types of gardener. The EGO range was selected as a contemporary eco-friendly offering to run alongside petrol and plug-in options. The lithium-ion technology really stood out for Thompson & Morgan Brand Manager Chris Wright, who says the appeal of the range is its difference from anything else on the market.
Chris is pleased with initial performance: “Our machinery offering is in its infancy and still establishing but the EGO range has held up well following a soft launch on our website. The lithium-ion technology is a major draw for environmentally conscious consumers as well as those looking for a cordless option in the garden. The USP has actually helped us spread the word of our move into the machinery market.”
The EGO Power+ Lawnmower was particularly well received by members of the press during Thompson & Morgan media days in July, garnering coverage from the likes of The Sun, Amateur Gardening and Garden News.
